Funds benifit handicapped skiers
Wolfeboro firefighters took part in the 17th annual firefighters fund- raising race March 25, 2007 at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry, ME. Firefighters from Maine and New Hampshire put together teams of five firefighters dressed in their turnout gear, helmet, coat and pants, and raced down a slalom course holding a 50- foot length of fire hose. Also durning the weekend a ski-a-thon and chili cook off took place. All funds went to benifit the Maine Handicapped Skiing program. Wolfeboro placed ninth out of 14 teams. Team organizer Lt. Dave Brackett stated, ” This was only our second year taking part in this event and we were very pleased with the improvements of the team. The course was getting soft and mushy, real spring conditions, and we really worked hard. Team members were glad they were able to pratice and show off their skills durning the Wolfeboro Winter Fest at Abenaki this year.” Team members were Lt. Dave Brackett, Lt. Andre deBeer, Firefighters Frank Bellefleur, Rob Martel, and Jon Powers, and Call Firefighters Bob Shilo, and Jim Savage. Andre and Frank also volunteer with the New Hampshire handicapped skiing program at King Pine Ski Area in Madison, NH.
