WOLFEBORO FIREFIGHTERS 3RD YEAR ON THE SLOPES

Mar. 30, 2008- Wolfeboro firefighters took part in the 18th annual Eat the Heat Chili Cook Off and Firefighters Race a fund- raising event at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry, ME. Firefighters from Maine and New Hampshire put together teams of five firefighters dressed in their turnout gear, helmet, coat and pants, and raced down a slalom course holding a 50- foot length of fire hose.  All funds went to benifit the Maine Handicapped Skiing program. Wolfeboro placed 5th out of 14 teams, with a time of 32.44 seconds. Team organizer Lt. Dave Brackett stated, ” This was only our Third year taking part in this event and we were very pleased with the improvements of the team, were getting better and faster. Team members were glad they were able to practice and show off their skills durning the Wolfeboro Winter Fest at Abenaki this year.” Team members were Retired Lt. Dave Brackett, Lt. Andre deBeer, Firefighters Frank Bellefleur, Daryl Morales, and Jon Powers, and Call Firefighter Bob Shilo. Firefighter Chris Stevens and Call Firefighter Jim Savage, along with  friends and family, were there to cheer on and support the event.

Mar. 8, 2008- First we would like to thank Meredith Village Savings Bank(MVSB) for the wonderful donation, of allowing Wolfeboro Fire Rescue to drill on the building located at 15 Endicott Street. Some of the drills completed were ICS, Fire Attack, Search and Rescue, Ventalation, Ladder Operations and Rehab. On Mar. 10, 2008 the building was torn down to make way for the bank.

Feb. 6, 2008-Lt. Dave Brackett held his 0 birthday party at Central Station. Some of the presents Lt. Brackett received were a drip torch, a picture of himself, a gift basket full of fish, a scrap book, a couple of t-shirts, a cool little fire truck, etc.

1st Alarm in Tuftonboro

Mar. 2, 2008-(Group 2) L-1 and Car 1 were called mutial aid to Tuftonboro for smoke in the building. The following is from the local newspaper. Firefighters were called to Tuftonboro Central School at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday on a report of a fire alarm activation and when they arrived found smoke in the gym. The school was surrounded by emergency responders from Tuftonboro, Center Ossipee, Ossipee Corner, West Ossipee, Wolfeboro, NH Electric Cooperative, school personnel, Tuftonboro Road Dept. as well as Tuftonboro and NH State Police. Fire crews searched the building using thermal imaging cameras and determined the cause of the smoke to be a burning motor inside the school’s ventilation system. Crews cleared the scene about 4:30 a.m.

Feb. 23, 2008- Local firefighters descended on Abenaki Ski Area in Wolfeboro on Sunday for the firefighters brigade, where they took part in a number of events, including racing down the slopes carrying a fire hose as seen above. The brigade was part of the Wolfeboro Winter Carnival celebration, which continues through this weekend.

Feb. 16, 2008- Ice Water Rescue Training on Lake Winnipesaukee just off from Brewster Beach. Lt. DeBeer and FF. Dail put on the training and taught the members new ways to make rescues.

Snowmobile Training

Feb. 2, 2008-Snowmobile Training was conducted at the Sub-Station and on the trail system out behind the station. FF. Stevens put on the training and went over snowmobile safety, loading and unloading patients and real-life scenarios.
