April 17, 2008 (Group 2) - A brush pile being burned by the property owner got out of control and quickly spread to about two acres on Piper Lane in Wolfeboro Thursday. Firefighters were called to the Carl Shannon residence at 40 Piper Lane at12:47 p.m. First-arriving crews discovered a fire quickly spreading into the woods behind the home and requested a first alarm assignment. Fire crews from Tuftonboro Fire-Rescue, Ossipee Corner Fire-Rescue, and West Ossipee Fire-Rescue responded to the scene. The fire was declared under control at 2:53 p.m. A recreational vehicle parked at the property was destroyed. No injuries were reported. “The ground surface is very dry in many areas, “said Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Tom Zotti.” The heavy snowfall from last winter is essentially gone. We urge anyone planning to burn outside to contact their local fire department for permit requirements and be extremely careful. “Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue was also assisted at the scene by Lakeside Ambulance, the Wolfeboro Police Department, and the District Ranger from the New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands. Wakefield Fire-Rescue covered Wolfeboro Central Station. Atricle from the Granite State News http://www.newhampshirelakesandmountains.com/pdf/GSN.2008.04.24.pdf
