History of the Professional Firefighters of Wolfeboro: Local 3708
History of the Monument
In the fall of 1964, a gentleman named Ralph Hansen came into the fire station, which at that time was on Lehner Street. Mr. Hansen was an employee of the B.M. Railroad, he met with Chief Guy Foss and asked if the fire department would like to have the bell seen here today. Guy accepted this offer for the department. Over the next several years, the bell was stored different places. These were the fire station, the Bell Building, the Clark Shop and then our Public Safety Building.
In March of 1993, the Wolfeboro Firemen's Relief Association asked the town selectmen for approval to pursue the building of a monument in memory of the firefighters. In April of 1993, we recieved our approval.
